Going to catered ski holidays with your family or friends can be a lot of fun. And this experience can be greater fun if you take your children along with you. The earliest age that a child can start to ski could be 3- 4 years, therefore finding good childcare is an important part of your holiday.
It is possible to book summer holidays in catered chalets in case you fancy a mountain holiday out of the ski season. The prices tend to be lower in the winter season and the chalets are also less crowded during this time, which gives more space for your little ones to run around.
Things to Look for before Booking
It is advised to do thorough research before booking a skiing holiday for you and your family. You must think about your accommodation and childcare facilities. Study the piste maps properly and see whether it is easy to ski back if required. In case you are planning to take a ski holiday during school holidays, remember that childcare facilities get booked up early. If your children are younger, then it is always better to go outside the school holidays.
Book up to a year in advance, in case you are planning to go skiing during the peak season. If you are staying in a hotel or a catered chalet, it is worth checking how flexible their mealtimes are. There have been a few instances where people were not served with their dinner before 8 PM in a chalet. Do as much research as you can about a resort including the weather conditions and altitude.
Pros and Cons
Pros:
Going skiing is a great way to relax your mind and body. The chalets offer you a break from everyday chores and serve you with excellent meals. At places with good quality childcare, you can do a full day’s skiing.
Cons
These holidays are little expensive. The high altitude doesn’t suit everyone.
All you need to look for while you are on ski holidays is a ski resort that welcomes families and a chalet having children facilities. If you are not able to find a chalet with child care facility, you may have to carry your luggage full of toys and other entertainment stuff.
Skiing is absolutely free for children under the age of five in many resorts. Look for resorts that offer good child care ski facilities.
Besides this, there are resorts that have baby slope for your children so that they can practise on it and get the hang of a tow lift as well. In case you are looking to ski together with your family, it would be worth looking for a resort with proper ski lifts and not tow lifts.
