Holidays for single people – weekends, holidays and days out – include skiing, snowboarding, tennis, sailing, diving, city breaks and activity and adventure holidays. From the Red Sea to Morocco, the Lake District to Venice. You don’t have to be single to go on one of these holidays, but the vast majority of Speedbreaks’ clients are. Most holidays are destined for people aged 25-45, but a new range is being offered for those aged 35-55.

Carl Liver asked:
Statistics tell us that UK holidays have become more and more popular in the last few years reversing the trend for foreign holidays that has been with us since the seventies. This is due partly due to the global recession and people cost cutting, it could also be due to a fashion change where people are not so interested in the darkness of their tan more the quality of accommodation, scenery and general interest in all the attractions in this country. It has also been suggested that the lack of a good summer here for a few years has led people to suggest that this year MUST be the year we get some sun.
Well whatever the reason may be bookings are up with a significant number of these holidaymakers looking to holiday cottages and even luxury holiday cottages. This benefits owners and local areas and fits nicely with the fact that many areas of the country are promoting their local wares and businesses especially when it comes from green sources or organic produce. The rise in popularity isn’t restricted to one area of the UK but Wales, Devon and Cornwall seem to be particularly well-liked. If this increase in requests for holiday cottages was only due to the recession then we would expect to see budget cottages being the recipients of this increased demand but what we are seeing is an increase across the board with luxury holiday cottages also in great demand. This used to be somewhat of a niche market but as people in this country are expecting more and more from their holiday accommodation the luxury end of the market has come to the fore.
Putting aside whether holidaymakers go for the budget end or the luxury holiday cottages the recent increases in bookings point to the fact that the UK is now a growing area for the renting of holiday cottages and this does not seem to be a passing fad, it is here to stay. The mass market is moving back to the UK for their holidays and this can only be a good thing.
To get a great selection of luxury holiday cottages and very competitive prices why not go to Stately Escapes and have a search through all their properties I’m sure you will find one that suits your family’s needs.

Phillip Adams-Wright asked:
When we choose our holiday destination we may look either online or through holiday brochures to get ideas. We tend to aim for the hottest weather and a familiar tourist friendly location such as the Balearic Islands and Spain or Greece, all benefiting from wonderful Mediterranean weather but many families may be growing tired of the same old beach holiday.
It is true that many people are less concerned with their holiday destination specifically as they can all look the same when it boils down to it. This is why many families are now looking to other destinations to provide more variety than your typical beach holiday. The UK has emerged as a tourist favourite for a varied holiday and with the island being very small it’s easy for us to get to all the different attractions and sights we want to fit in.
The Lake District
The Lake District up in Cumbria, north of Blackpool (another family holiday favourite) is a wonderful countryside and mountainous region with many lakes forming in the valleys such as Windermere, Coniston water and Rydal. The Lake District has been immensely popular with the rambling and fell walking crowd and is a perfect holiday for the family and even the family dog! Dogs will enjoy the exercise of being on country walks and many hotels and guesthouses are pet friendly too. Favourite destinations include Ambleside and Kendal, famous for the Mint Cake.
Skegness
Skegness is one of the original UK beach resorts, with a pier (a typical feature of any British beach resort) and plenty of nearby wildlife parks and aquariums there is always plenty for children to see and do. Skegness is home to one of the countries many family holiday parks and so accommodation and entertainment is plentiful. When the weather is fair Skegness’ beach can rival many on the continent.
London
Our nation’s capital is home to many iconic landmarks famous around the world such as Big Ben, Buckingham Palace and the London Eye. Massive amounts of tourists flock to London from around the globe every year to see the classic, old attractions as well as the new ones that have been created since the turn of the millennium. Other popular reasons to visit London include going to the theatre where musicals and plays are regularly on and are worth seeing at least once during your stay.
So holidays in the UK can be as varied as you like, the number of activities isn’t just limited to fair weather activities which is something holidays abroad suffer from if the weather takes a turn for the worse.

Out of all the European destinations, UK is one of the best places to have a great time and visit a lot of historical places without needing to have big expenditures. Because a lot of people from all over the world visit Europe for millions of reasons each year, relatively cheap accommodation places are available from rented rooms to eco-tourism, agro-tourism and hostels and motels. Of course three star and four star hotels are available for accommodation all over the country, but this is an option only if you are willing to pay luxury accommodation prices. If you would rather spent your holiday budget on other things than accommodation, then you can consider a Bed & breakfast place where prices can start from

I was planning to cash in some BA miles and visit London next week, from the US. I saw the strike vote results.. I haven’t seen anything that says when or if they are likely to strike. What is the expectation in the UK? Is it likely to happen immediately, or not for a few weeks/months?

Bob Brightside asked:
The great thing about holidays in the UK is they can be as spontaneous as you are with many different resorts just a short drive or train journey away it’s easy to find somewhere here in the UK to spend a family holiday at.
Blackpool
Blackpool is one of the first resorts people think of when they think of holiday resorts here in the UK, the pier and the beach have been there for decades with the majority of the UK flocking to the northern shores of Blackpool in the sixties and seventies. With the introduction of the jumbo jet a lot of UK tourists flew away to Spain but in recent years the resort of Blackpool has done really well drawing in new business especially with the Pleasure Beach theme park.
Skegness
Another resort oft-mentioned is Skegness, Skegness is on the opposite coast to Blackpool so its beach leads on to the North Sea. This doesn’t mean that the seas will be as cold as the countries on the other side of the water. Skegness is similar to Blackpool but has the advantage of being more central in the British Isles making it more accessible for more people. The Pier, Embassy Centre and nature parks near to Skegness make it perfect for family holidays to entertain all the children, teenagers and adults.
Bognor Regis
Bognor Regis is another popular resort but this time on the south coast of Britain between Worthing and Portsmouth, along the southern coast is a common place for many people to spend a day at the beach due to the southernmost point of the UK being closer to the Mediterranean and mainland Europe countries that enjoy warmer weather. In the summer the south coast can get incredible weather and heat to satisfy even the staunch Spain sun worshipper.
Minehead
Minehead is situated slightly inland on the Somerset coast, a short distance away from south Wales and only a short journey away from another summer holiday favourite: Weston -Super-Mare. Minehead is the site of one of the main countrywide holiday park companies, Butlins, and so there is plenty to enjoy at their parks but also the location of Minehead means there’s plenty of activities like mountain biking, pony trekking and other countryside activities and sights to enjoy.
So with this short list there are already destinations all over the country that are potential holiday hot spots this year, and with the renewed interest in holidaying in the UK many resorts are receiving the benefit of increased investment and more things to see and do.

Amber Laurie asked:
When advances in technology made long haul travel drastically easier, a fad for long distance holidays certainly took hold, and – for a while – it seemed as though this trend would never end. However, the rising popularity for ’staycations’ or holidays that see fun-seekers staying in their own country when hunting out great destinations, has indicated that the British public isn’t fixated on jetting off any more. Instead, they are looking to find the best holiday deals and experiences wherever they happen to be located and with so many gorgeous destinations and hotels right here on the UKs shores, it’s about time.
When you’re thinking of taking a holiday in the UK, you’ll find there are plenty of well-loved destinations to enjoy – from city breaks to seaside towns ideal for families. While Britain may not be the largest country when it comes to physical space, it’s certainly bursting with enough gorgeous attractions and exciting events to entertain even the most discerning travellers.
If you’re a fan of shopping or theatre breaks, then you can rest assured that top spots such as London and Newcastle will have you covered in England while Edinburgh and Glasgow are perfect choices for culture-hunters with their heart’s set on Scotland. As leaders in art, literature and theatre, these globally recognised cities all have much to recommend them, as well as plenty of shopping opportunities for bargain-hungry travellers.
On the other hand, if you’re looking for a relaxing holiday that will take you away from the hustle and bustle around town, you could find that the Highlands of Scotland offer exactly the kind of tranquillity you’re heart desires. You’ll also find plenty of space and time to yourself if you choose a break in the rolling Yorkshire Dales or near the green valleys of South Wales.
Travellers with children needn’t worry either, as there are plenty of UK holiday destinations that offer all sorts of activities and sights to keep kids amused and the whole family happy. For example, a trip to top seaside destinations such as Blackpool and Scarborough features the chance for everyone to enjoy everything from traditional attractions such as Punch and Judy shows as well as more modern fairground rides for thrill-seekers of all ages.
Adventurous holiday-makers won’t find themselves stuck for choice either. There are plenty of areas ideal for adventurous souls throughout the UK and a lot of companies have made it their mission to make it easier for travellers to take advantage of Britain’s most exciting areas – from paddling down the Severn to cycling the Hebrides or bungee jump over the Tees.
